Northern Veterans Athletic Club

Northern Veterans A.C. was formed in 1968 to further the needs of older athletes to compete with other athletes of the same age. The founder was Norman Ashcroft. The Club  have campaigned over the years for age categories & age related prizes in open competition. It  provides competitions specifically for athletes over 40 years of age (35 for ladies). The Club has currently about 800 members ranging in age from 35 to 90+.

If you live in the North of England & are old enough, then you are invited to compete as a guest at one of our non - championship events. Athletes who already have a first claim club can join NVAC as second claim members. You are then automatically affiliated to the National and World Veterans/Masters associations and can compete in championship events. If you do not have a first claim club, then you can become a first claim member of NVAC, which is affiliated to the North of England AA, and no longer have to pay the unattached levy on race entry fees.

There is a monthly Club run held on a Sunday commencing 11 am. Entry fee is currently £3, payable on the day. There are usually lots of prizes, up to 3 awarded in each 5 year age group, and several handicap prizes which ensure that everybody who turns out regularly should  eventually be a winner. Races are usually 10K, and are a mixture of road, track and cross-country. In the Summer months there are a series of track meetings which incorporate a club league competition.

NVAC organise various championship events, entry to which are  limited to members. These include cross-country, track and field. Most are closed events and require pre-entry, but some of the longer races may be  held in conjunction with open races.  Additionally NVAC members may compete in National  and International veterans events.
