RULES OF THE NORTHERN VETERANS ATHLETIC CLUB
2. OBJECTS 3. MEMBERS AND MEMBERSHIP .FEES (a) Subscriptions for membership shall be as follows :- As decided at A.G.M. (b) Subscriptions shall be due on the 1st January for that year. New members joining between the 1st October - 31st December will
not be required to pay their next subscription until the following
1st January. 4. Any member not having paid his or her subscription by the 31st March shall incur a £1.00 administration fee on payment of subscriptions or, if the Executive Committee so decide, cease to be a member of the Club, but this shall not release the defaulting member from the payment of the subscription, or any other liabilities of the Club. 4 (a) "Exceptionally the committee may agree to waive a member's subscription for a period, providing that an appeal is made on or before any such subscription falls due. During this period the member loses the right to receive both NVAC & BVAF newspapers. Should this period extend to a year or more the question of paying for the lapsed time will be at the discretion of the Committee." 5. Every member of the Club shall be subject to re-election by the Executive Committee at its first meeting following the Annual General Meeting. Any member failing to secure re-election shall forthwith cease to be a member of the Club, but shall have the right of appeal to a General Meeting of members. A general meeting of members must consist of at least 20 members. 6. APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP 7. OFFICERS OF THE CLUB 8. Honorary Vice-Presidents may be elected at the Annual General Meeting by the Committee. 9. Honorary Life Membership to be recommended by the Executive Committee at the A.G.M. 10. Any Officer of the Club (see Rule 7) can lose their position by a two-thirds majority vote of the members attending a Special General Meeting called for the purpose. 11. A member of the Executive Committee absenting himself or herself from three consecutive meetings without a reasonable explanation shall cease to be a member of that Committee, but shall be eligible for re-election should same be considered desirable. 12. The Executive Committee shall have the power to fill any vacancy arising. 13. The affairs of the Club shall be managed by the officers of the Club. A quorum shall consist of not less than five. 14. The Executive Committee shall have the power to appoint a sub-committee for special objects from their own body with the addition of such members of the Club as the Executive Committee shall select. All proceedings of such sub-committee shall be subject to confirmation by the Executive Committee of the Club except when the Executive Committee shall otherwise determine. 15. The Club Secretary shall be an ex-officio member of all sub-committees and sections. 16. Any member violating the rules and regulations of the Club or guilty in the sole opinion of the Executive Committee, of any misconduct, or whose subscription is in arrears, providing a month's notice in writing shall have been sent to such member by a Recorded Delivery Letter to his last known address, informing him/her of the proposed action of the Executive Committee, may be expelled by vote of two-thirds of the Executive Committee at a special meeting called for the purpose. 17. Any member so expelled shall forfeit all claim against the Club, and shall cease to be a member, subject however, to appeal to a Special General Meeting which shall be called at the request of not less than 20 members. 18. A General Meeting of the members shall be held not later than the 31 December each year to receive from the Secretary and Treasurer a statement of the past year's accounts and to elect officers and an Executive Committee of the Club. 19. Any member wishing to resign must give notice of same in writing to the Secretary not less than three days previous to the Annual General Meeting, otherwise he/she will be held liable for another year's subscription. 20. The members shall be entitled to vote at any General Meeting of the Club. 21. On the requisition, in writing, of 20 members, the Secretary shall call a General Meeting of the Club. 22. The Chairman of the Executive Committee or the Secretary may call an Executive Meeting at their discretion. 23. That two Auditors shall be appointed at the Annual General Meeting, who shall audit the accounts for the year prior to their being submitted to the next Annual General Meeting. 24. None of the foregoing Rules shall be altered or rescinded, nor shall any new Rule be adopted except at the Annual General Meeting or at a Special Meeting called for the purpose. 25. Notice of any proposed addition or alteration shall be given in writing to the Secretary at least 14 days prior to the date of such meeting, and shall be circulated to the members of the Club with the Notice convening the meeting at which it is to be considered. 26. All the property of the Club shall be vested in the Trustees representing and acting for the whole of the members of the Club. No personal liability shall attach to any Trustee except to the extent of such monies, securities or property of the Club as may actually be received by him/her. 27. Members shall not be entitled to compete in Club Championships unless they have been a member of the Club for a period of 14 days prior to the date of such Championships. 28. No member shall be eligible to compete in any Club Championship or Club Handicap, or represent the Club in any Team Race unless his/her subscription for the current year has been paid. 29. That there must be at least four full Committee Meetings a year with all Executive Committee Members in attendance, unless the Honorary Secretary has been informed at least 48 hours previously.
30. That the Honorary Treasurer shall give a full statement of
accounts up to the last month end preceding the meeting. If the
Honorary Treasurer is unable to attend a written copy must be sent
to the Honorary Secretary for presentation to the Committee in the
absence of the Honorary Treasurer.
